In a recent revelation, director Hansal Mehta opened up about his experience working with Manoj Bajpayee on the 2000 comedy drama Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!! Mehta candidly shared that collaborating with Bajpayee proved to be quite challenging during the making of the film, citing the actor's major mood swings as a significant factor.
During a year end roundtable organized by Cinema Express, Hansal Mehta shed light on the complexities he faced while working with Manoj Bajpayee, stating that the actor's unpredictable mood swings posed a considerable challenge on the sets of the film. Recalling the shoot, Hansal Mehta shared, "It’s about the connection that you feel.
Manoj has major mood swings. We made Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!! in 2000, and he was a pain in that film." The filmmaker said that the actor was a good person but, “But at heart, he’s a nice guy. He’s not a bad person. You get that vibe. When we were working together, I used to get very irritated.
I would ask, ‘Manoj, why are you behaving like this?’ That was the time when Manoj would take the character and just go. I don’t know how he decided that the character should be irritable, but he thrust it on everyone. Everyone used to run away from him. Saurabh (Shukla) used to be like, ‘I went to speak to him and he was mean.
What’s wrong with him?'” During the roundtable discussion, Hansal Mehta emphasized the importance of the connection he shares with actors and highlighted his successful collaborations with Rajkumar Rao, mentioning that despite initial reservations, their professional bond has grown over multiple projects.
Despite the problem between, Hansal Mehta and Manoj Bajpayee later also collaborated for the film, Aligarh, which received widespread critiical acclaim..
