FKA twigs’ Calvin Klein ad banned in the UK for being too sexual, offensive

The independent advertising regulator announced its ruling on Wednesday after receiving two complaints that the spring 2023 ad was “offensive and irresponsible” because it “objectified women.” “The ad used nudity and centered on FKA twigs’ physical features rather than the clothing, to the extent that it presented her as a stereotypical sexual object,” the ASA said in a , adding that the image was “likely to cause serious offense.” The organization also reportedly reviewed Calvin Klein posters featuring Kendall Jenner, which showed the supermodel covering her bare breasts and .

Calvin Klein hit back at the ruling stating: “The images were not vulgar and were of two confident and empowered women who had chosen to identify with the Calvin Klein brand, and the ads contained a progressive and enlightened message.” The iconic American fashion brand described the ads as “natural and neutral,” and also noted that male models were a part of the same campaign.
