Eminem has one little favor to ask of Matthew Stafford. Ahead of Sunday’s wild card playoff clash between Stafford’s current Rams team and his former Lions squad, the Detroit rapper pleaded for the Super Bowl winning quarterback to let his one time city “have this one.” “Stafford, what’d I say?” Eminem began in a “Sunday Night Football” preview.
“You owe me this favor, bro. I was there for you when you won it. I was there for you. I was right there. I rapped for you, Stafford. Bro, I rapped for you. Can you just let us have this one? Just this one?” Stafford spent the first 12 years of his career with the Lions, who selected him first overall in the 2009 NFL Draft, before he was traded to the Rams in a January 2021 blockbuster.
A year later, he captured his first Super Bowl title at SoFi Stadium, where Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar performed the halftime show. Sunday’s game at Ford Field will mark the Lions’ first home playoff contest in decades. “I so badly want to win a playoff game for this city, that hasn’t had one in so long,” said Goff, who threw for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions through 17 regular season games in 2023. “That’s so much more important than anything personally for me.” The Lions finished the year at 12 5 in what was Goff’s third season in Detroit.
The Rams, meanwhile, capped off the season at 10 7 and finished second in the NFC West. Kickoff between the Lions and Rams gets underway Sunday at 8:15 p.m..
