Diplomatic Freeze: Afghanistan Rebuffs Pakistan's Top Security Brass Amidst Escalating Tensions

A deep diplomatic chill has settled between Afghanistan and Pakistan, underscored by an unprecedented series of visa denials to Islamabad's highest-ranking security officials. In a startling move that reverberates across the region, Afghanistan’s de facto authorities flatly rejected visa applications for Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, and the powerful Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Chief, Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, not once, but thrice within a mere three-day span.

This repeated refusal marks a critical low point in the already strained relationship between the two neighbours.

The Pakistani delegation sought to embark on a crucial visit to Kabul with an urgent agenda: to confront the escalating menace of cross-border terrorism, specifically targeting the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Islamabad asserts, with increasing alarm, that the TTP — a militant group responsible for a recent surge in deadly attacks within Pakistan — is operating with impunity from sanctuaries on Afghan soil.
