Firefighters were called at about 2 p.m. by a resident who had spotted a deer “drowning” in the water near the 5000 block of Lorne Bridge Road in the Manotick district. Article content “Upon our arrival, the deer had made its way onto an ice shelf but could not stand due to hypothermia,” Ottawa firefighters said in a release.

Firefiighters managed to get the deer out of the water to safety about 2:40 p.m. Rescuers wrapped the animal in a blanket and a “kind off duty” police officer allowed the firefighters to place the animal in a work shed to warm up. “The deer eventually regained use of its legs and was released back into the forest,” firefighters reported.
