David Warner hugs Usman Khwaja's mother after playing his farewell Test

Listen to Story As David Warner bid an emotional farewell to Test cricket at the Sydney Cricket Ground, his fellow opener and childhood friend Usman Khawaja opened up about the special connection between his mother and Warner. Warner received a befitting ending to his Test career as Australia managed to in the 3 match Test series.

Speaking to the broadcasters during the post match, Khawaja reflected on Warner's career and the camaraderie that the two openers share. "Quite emotional walking back, such a long time, such an amazing journey (on David Warner), I'm very proud of having walked out to bat with him, loved the way he took on the bowlers and completed the 3 0 series win.

I'll remember him as an entertainer and a performer, when you get David Warner you'll get something unexpected at all times," Khawaja said. Khawaja revealed that his mother admires Warner a lot. In fact, after Australia won the Test match against Pakistan, Warner went to hug Khawaja's mother.

This showcases the special bond and respect that Warner possesses for his fellow opener's mother. "He (Warner) is hugging my mom, she loves him a lot. Honestly, I just enjoyed batting with him, he attacked the ball, let me play my game." "When I finish (my career), we can enjoy playing a round of golf together," Khawaja said. Khawaja admitted that Warner as Test opener will be tough to replace. "Be yourself, you can't try to be someone else, you just can't go out and strike in the 70s (when asked if Warner can be replaced seamlessly).

Test cricket is a tough place, you go out and do it your own way," he added. It was a full circle moment for Warner and Khawaja, who have been playing together since their junior cricket days. As Warner stepped in to play his final Test innings for Australia, he was accompanied by Khawaja as his opening partner.

In 66 Test innings, the duo amassed 2841 runs at an average of 44.39. Their memorable partnership of 302 runs against New Zealand in 2015 is the 3rd highest for 2nd wicket for Australia..
