Congress Calls Out KTR and Harish Rao Over Row Outside Telangana Assembly

In a heated exchange on Monday, Congress stalwart Motha Rohit publicly rebuked Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) heavyweights K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and T. Harish Rao for what he called a "disruptive" stunt at the Telangana State Assembly. The two senior BRS leaders, draped in black T‑shirts bearing slogans against the Congress‑led government, tried to storm the Assembly floor, only to be stopped by police.

Rohit reminded everyone that the Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, has repeatedly invited opposition members to voice their grievances inside the legislature. "If you have genuine concerns, come through the proper channel," he told ANI, "don’t resort to theatrics that only create a mess."

The Congress leader didn’t stop at the invitation issue. He accused KTR and Harish Rao of bordering on rudeness with the security staff, especially the women police officers posted at the gate. According to Rohit, Harish Rao even slipped off his protest T‑shirt when a female officer stood in front of him, a move that made the officer “extremely uncomfortable.” KTR, meanwhile, was alleged to have pushed and shouted at the constables, behaviour Rohit described as “unacceptable for any public representative.”

Adding fuel to the fire, Rohit pointed out that another BRS figure, Legislative Council member Tata Madhusudhan, had allegedly hurled a derogatory slur at Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. "We can’t even repeat what was said, but it happened in front of the very symbol of our democracy," Rohit lamented.

Both parties’ clashes spilled onto the streets, creating a snarled traffic jam that lasted about half an hour as party workers, journalists and police crowded the Assembly’s main entrance. Eventually, the police detained KTR, Harish Rao and a few other BRS legislators, shifting them to nearby police stations.

Rohit’s demand was crystal clear: an open, public apology from KTR and Harish Rao, and a firm stance against such conduct in the future. "Without that, they have no business returning to the Assembly," he said, urging the BRS leadership to respect the decorum expected of elected officials.

The protest itself was framed by the BRS as a condemnation of what they see as the Congress government’s failure over its first 1,000 days in power. Their black‑clad rally carried placards reading, "Congress failure in implementing guarantees" and "1,000 days of rule are a failure." Whether the message resonated with the public remains to be seen, but the episode certainly added another contentious chapter to Telangana’s political drama.
