Bangalore Metro to Add 13th Yellow Line Train Next Week

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is gearing up to put its 13th trainset into commercial service on the Yellow Line as early as next week. It’s a modest yet significant step toward the corridor’s full‑scale operation.

At present, ten six‑coach trains ply the 19.75‑km stretch between R.V. Road and Bommasandra. During rush hour, they manage a headway of roughly seven minutes, while off‑peak intervals stretch to about ten minutes. Adding the new set should tighten those gaps, bringing peak‑hour intervals down to four or five minutes once the whole fleet is up and running.

The incoming train was built by Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. in a facility near Kolkata and rolled into the Hebbagodi depot back in June. After completing the mandatory 750 km of dynamic testing on the main‑line tracks, it cleared all safety checks and is now ready for passengers.

Meanwhile, the 14th train has already arrived at Hebbagodi but is still undergoing inspections and performance trials before it can join the regular roster. The final, 15th trainset is slated to reach Bengaluru by the end of July, completing the order of fifteen units.

Out of the fifteen trainsets planned for the Yellow Line, thirteen will be earmarked for daily passenger service. The remaining two will sit as reserve stock, a precaution to ensure uninterrupted operations during emergencies, scheduled maintenance, or any unforeseen technical glitches.

Officials are optimistic that, with the full complement of trains, commuters will see a noticeable dip in waiting times and a smoother ride experience across the corridor. The move is part of BMRCL’s broader push to make urban transit more reliable and appealing for the city’s growing population.
