Deadline has confirmed that Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are reuniting for 28 Years Later , a new thriller based off the 2002 film about a rage virus that overtakes civilization. Potential buyers are being approached by WME , which reps Boyle and Garland. The package is a new trilogy based on the world established in the 2002 original ( 28 Days Later ) and its 2007 sequel ( 28 Weeks Later ).
Boyle is attached to direct the first installment. Garland would write all three. The budget for each movie would be in the $75 million range. Both will produce along with original producer Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice, the former head of Fox Searchlight Pictures. The latter is a division of former studio Twentieth Century Fox, which originally backed the films.
