Iowa Republicans are poised to place their votes in the 2024 primary season on January 15, during which time Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is going after Nikki Haley, the Republican candidate for president, likening her to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Greene, a known Trump supporter who has gained significant support from voters, alleges that Haley, the previous UN Ambassador, insulted Iowa caucus voters, similarly to Clinton's alleged offenses.
Green has also asserted that Haley has left Iowans feeling belittled and offended after making a statement proclaiming Iowa to be “not smart enough, not good enough.” In a post to X, previously known as Twitter, Greene slammed Haley for her remarks towards the state of Iowa and compared her to Clinton, leaving many Iowans upset. "The media is all she has because the media opposes Trump!” Greene lambasted.
During an address to an enthusiastic crowd of Trump supporters in Iowa, Greene called Haley a ‘birdbrain’, which was met with applause. Greene has been campaigning on behalf of Trump, the leading candidate in the GOP Republican primary, in Iowa. A video shared on X shows Greene criticizing Haley for disparaging remarks about the state of Iowa during a rally in New Hampshire, where Haley is looking to halt Trump’s potential second term following his probable victory in the Iowa caucuses.
South Carolina governor Haley drew comparisons between herself and Hillary Clinton when she told a rally in New Hampshire, "You know, Iowa begins it. You correct it, and then my wonderful state of South Carolina wraps it up.”
Back in 2016, when Clinton was the Democratic candidate for president, she reportedly made confidential remarks about the Iowa caucus participants in 2012. In a 2012 email to journalist Sidney Blumenthal, Clinton called caucuses the "creatures of the parties' extremes”. Clinton's work-related emails were made public by a judge's order in 2015, revealing these comments.
Aside from drawing parallels between fellow contestants, Greene has been actively involved in political rallies, hoping to bolster Trump’s campaign and win widespread voter support. She's even hinted at interest in being considered as a running mate, however, she hasn't been particularly emphatic about this. Trump has since divulged that he'd consider a conservative woman like Greene or Governor Kristi Noem (R SC) as his running mate.
