A Slice of Himachal's Artistic 'Paradise' Blooms in Delhi

Imagine stepping into the elegant confines of Delhi's Bikaner House, only to be transported to the serene, mist-kissed hills of Himachal Pradesh. That's precisely the enchanting journey awaiting visitors at the 'Paradise Promised' art exhibition, a delightful showcase of creativity born from an immersive artist residency.

For a brief, precious window from September 14th to 16th, art enthusiasts in the capital have the unique opportunity to witness this collection. It's all thanks to the visionary efforts of Teesta Bhandare and her Knowledge Convergence Foundation (TKCF), who meticulously curated this experience, bringing together a diverse group of talented individuals.

The heart of this exhibition truly lies in its origin: a focused artist residency held amidst the breathtaking natural beauty of Salogra, Himachal Pradesh. It was there, away from the hustle and bustle, that nine artists found their muse, translating the quietude and grandeur of the mountains into approximately 40 thought-provoking artworks. You'll find a rich tapestry of styles and perspectives, with participating artists like Rekha Hebbar Rao, Veer Munshi, Kodanda Rao Teppala, Sheena Maria Piedade, Digbijayee Khatua, Dhiraj Pednekar, and Lina Vincent, alongside Shailesh B R, Akshata Mokashi, and Dhiraj Rabha.

But this wasn't just about paint on canvas or clay taking form; the residency itself was an intellectual feast. Imagine artists interacting with luminaries like historian Sohail Hashmi, acclaimed author and festival director Namita Gokhale, and the ever-insightful Anahita Batra. And to top it all off, the soulful melodies of singer-composer-filmmaker Madan Gopal Singh, accompanied by Pritam Ghosal, filled the mountain air, undoubtedly seeping into the artists' creative consciousness.

Listening to some of the artists, you get a real sense of their journey. Digbijayee Khatua, hailing from Odisha, shared his deep connection with nature, which beautifully manifests in his paper and watercolor works, exploring landscapes and cityscapes alike. Then there's Kodanda Rao Teppala, a veteran with 25 years of experience, whose art feels like a visual diary, reflecting on the nuances of daily life, human existence, and the natural world around us.

Dhiraj Pednekar, a Goa-based artist who's been creating since childhood, delved into a truly unique interpretation of paradise during the residency. For him, it was about the subtle, often overlooked co-existence of plants, shrubs, grasses, and fungi—a miniature ecosystem, a paradise in itself. And Shailesh B R, from Shivamogga, Karnataka, brings his intriguing fascination with kinetic art and ancient mythologies to the forefront, promising a dynamic and engaging experience.
