A Fatal Challenge: Chhattisgarh Man's Tragic End in a Twisted Test of Love

In a deeply disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through Chhattisgarh, a young man's life was tragically cut short in what appears to be a twisted and fatal test of love. Twenty-year-old Ravi Shankar, a resident of Korba district, succumbed to a pesticide overdose after allegedly being challenged by his 19-year-old girlfriend to consume the toxic substance as 'proof of his affection' during a heated argument.

The harrowing events unfolded on the evening of October 7.

Police reports indicate that Ravi and his girlfriend, who had been in a relationship for approximately two years, were embroiled in a dispute. It was during this emotionally charged confrontation that the unthinkable allegedly occurred: the young woman reportedly dared Ravi to consume poison to demonstrate the depth of his love for her.

In a moment of despair and misguided devotion, Ravi Shankar allegedly complied, ingesting a quantity of pesticide.

The tragedy didn't stop there. In a further alarming turn of events, the girlfriend also consumed some of the same pesticide, although her condition was reported to be stable. Both were rushed to a local hospital in Korba.

Given the severity of Ravi Shankar's condition, he was subsequently referred to a larger medical facility in Bilaspur for advanced treatment. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Ravi Shankar's life could not be saved, and he tragically passed away during treatment on October 8.

The Korba police quickly launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young man's death.

Their findings led to the arrest of the 19-year-old woman under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 306, which pertains to abetment to suicide.
