Woman charged after OPP officers bitten during probe of bottle throwing on highway

Three OPP officers were injured during the arrest of an allegedly intoxicated woman throwing bottles in the middle of a highway alongside an aggressive dog. Ontario Provincial Police officers from the Caledon dispatch were called around 3 p.m. Sunday to Highway 50 south of Highway 9 for reports of a person throwing bottles at cars and people while standing in the middle of the roadway.

The woman had a dog that police say had bitten a person who had stopped to try to help her. Their injuries were minor. OPP say their officers were “faced with an aggressive dog as well as a combative individual.” With the help of Caledon Animal Services, officers took control of the dog. “In the course the arrest of the person, three officers were injured, two of whom were bitten by the person,” police said in a statement Tuesday.

The injuries to the officers were minor. A 29 year old woman from Loretto has been charged with mischief, resisting arrest, assault peace officer, and public intoxication. She is to appear in Orangeville Provincial Court this month. Her name was not released. Caledon By Law Enforcement Services are investigating the dog bite..
