Will there be icy roads in North Texas? Here's what we're expecting (and when)

DALLAS — An arctic front has arrived in North Texas and will keep us at or below freezing temps until midday Wednesday. Between now and about midday on Monday, we should be prepared for chances of freezing rain and/or sleet. Get the latest forecast updates here . The WFAA weather team says wintry conditions will be light, but anything that falls will stick.

In other words, don't expect a Winter Wonderland of snow, but the freezing rain, sleet, and snow flurries can cause some slick road conditions. In DFW, we're expecting less than 0.1" of ice and less than 1/4" of a sleet snow combination. That sleet snow mix could be higher by the Red River in northeastern North Texas, while more freezing rain and ice is expected in southeastern North Texas.

The wintry mix increased between Sunday night and Monday morning. It was still light, but you should prepare for more roads to be somewhat slippery. Plan for travel issues through at least Tuesday morning. Sunshine during the day on Monday and Tuesday should help, but anything that melts will refreeze during the night and into the next morning.

Drive to conditions means changing the way you drive when road conditions do. slow down for better traction leave more space and don't stomp on the breaks headlights on so you can see and be seen check the weather and https://t.co/gTsiIahifN so you know what to expect. pic.twitter.com/ZfVKjfTv64 Crews have been driving across North Texas spreading brine treatment for safer driving.

The brine does not melt away ice or snow, but it does help to make precipitation less likely to freeze on roadways..
