Warner was emotional as he soaked up the atmosphere even as the crowd at his home ground was up on its feet to applaud the local hero. The Pakistan cricket team was at the venue well before David Warner and Usman Khawaja walked in and gave the former a guard of honour. Warner took his time, looking up at the skies before he walked out to bat for the penultimate time in his decorated Test career.
In another heart warming moment, Usman Khawaja and David Warner shared a warm hug before the two batters stepped on to the field. Warner and Khawaja, who are friends from age group cricket, survived just one over before Stumps was called on Day 1 of the New Year's Test. Earlier in the day, Pakistan posted 313 on the board despite the poor show from their top order after Shan Masood won the toss and opted to bat.
Incidentally, David Warner got off the mark with a cracking boundary in his final Test and remained unbeaten on 6 on Day 1. Pakistan opted to open the bowling with off spinner Sajid Khan as play ended with only 78.1 overs on the first day. Respect!
