Washington’s Kalen DeBoer cancels radio spot as Alabama rumors swirl

At this point, Kalen DeBoer will either be the next Alabama football head coach or he will send the search process into a tailspin. DeBoer, the head coach of national champion runner up Washington, canceled a scheduled radio interview with Seattle sports talk radio station KJR on Friday as rumors swirl that he could be the man to replace Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa.

“Husky fans, we know you were looking forward to a visit with Coach DeBoer this morning. Please understand that Coach DeBoer & UW Athletics are continuing to work towards a future we can all be excited about. At this time, Coach will not be joining us this morning, but we will reschedule our interview soon,” the radio station tweeted Friday morning .

Thursday, top Fox Sports college football color commentator Joel Klatt wrote that “all signs are pointing” to DeBoer succeeding Saban . “At this point, I would be pretty surprised if Washington’s Kalen DeBoer isn’t the next head coach at Alabama,” Klatt wrote. Saban, 72, stunningly announced his retirement earlier this week , capping a career in which he won seven national championships, six of which came in Tuscaloosa.

DeBoer, 49, has coached Washington the past two seasons after two years as head coach at Fresno State. The other head coaches who would seem to be top candidates — Florida State’s Mike Norvell and Oregon’s Dan Lanning — have both announced they are staying at their respective schools. Meanwhile, social media is abuzz for any other potential hints.

Fans went wild just at the sight of Deion Sanders on a private jet. It would be highly surprising if Sanders was a candidate in this process after his Colorado team finished in last place in the Pac 12 this past season . pic.twitter.com/nHzn7caBq3 Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin, who was previously Alabama’s offensive coordinator, also posted a probably trolling photo from the airport in Oxford ..
