Vivo X100 Pro: Hands On With The Feature Packed Camera Setup

Vivo X100 Pro camera module Vivo has been making strides in the camera department with its flagship X series for a few years now. The Vivo X90 Pro had a fantastic camera setup, and the X100 Pro seems to be building on that with more features, better algorithms and fine tuning the images. I’ve been using the 2024 Vivo flagship for a while now, and spent a lot of time clicking photos in Hong Kong.

Here’s what’s new and improved on the Vivo X100 Pro cameras. The smartphone sports a triple rear camera setup. It is led by a 50MP 1 inch type Sony IMX989 sensor and is accompanied by a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with floating lens tech – capable of shooting 4.3x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom, and a 50MP ultra wide angle camera with a 119 degree field of view.

All of them lie under Zeiss T* coating, which reduces lens flare at night (a common occurrence on iPhones). Primary camera shots in different focal lengths on the Vivo X100 Pro With a few taps on the viewfinder, you can switch between 12 focal lengths, which include 15mm (0.6x), 23mm (1x), 28mm (1.2x), 35mm (1.5x), 46mm (2x), 50mm (2.2x), 100mm (4.3x), 135mm (5.8x), 200mm (8.6x), 233mm (10x), 300mm (12.9x) and 600mm (25.8x).

As you can see above, these help frame the images better in the viewfinder with just a few taps. Vivo X100 Pro sunset mode in 50mm (left) and 100mm (right) These are also useful when clicking scenery. Vivo has also developed an algorithm for sunsets, which is meant to be triggered when you shoot a setting sun.

The best part is that you don’t need to tap on any mode to toggle it. The algorithms process the image to tune the colors when point towards the sunset and click the image. The Vivo X100 Pro features a multi focal portrait system, which includes 24mm (1x), 35mm (1.5x), 50mm (2.2x), 85mm (3.7x), and 100m (4.3x) to get the desired frame.

It is more enhanced by ZEISS style portraits. Adjusting the Zeiss filter intensity in post for Portraits You get modes like Distagon, B Speed, Biotar, Planar, Cinematic, B speed and more to get special effects in your portraits. These are fun to play around with even in post because you can adjust the focus subject, intensity of the effect and more.

I have never had so much fun with the macro mode on any phone. You can choose from 1x, 2x, 4.3x and 8.6x in the macro mode to zoom in to your subject. It’s easy to focus and the background bokeh looks pleasing to the eyes. The improved bokeh, addition of more focal lengths, great macro mode and plenty of more fun camera modes make the Vivo X100 Pro a delight for people who shoot a lot of photos on their phones.

But I’ll restrict my final verdict of the phone for the upcoming review..
