Sen. Mike Lee threw his support behind former President Donald Trump on Friday, “wholeheartedly” endorsing his 2024 White House run. The Utah Republican argued during an appearance on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” that voters should cast their ballots for Trump regardless of whether they “agree with everything he says, or not,” because the 77 year old embodies “order,” whereas President Biden epitomizes “chaos.” “The American people have a choice to make.
In this circumstance, they have a rare historically unusual chance to choose between two presidents,” Lee said. “They have a chance to choose between order and lawlessness. They have an opportunity to choose between putting America first or America last. I choose first and always to put America first.
“Look, whether you like Donald Trump or not, whether you agree with everything he says, or not, he is our one opportunity to choose order over chaos and putting America first over America last,” he added. “It’s time to get behind him.” Lee, who has served in the upper chamber since 2011, is the 21st GOP senator to endorse Trump – a list that includes Sens.
Tommy Tuberville (R Ala.), Tom Cotton (R Ark.), Rick Scott (R Fla.), Josh Hawley (R Mo.), JD Vance (R Ohio) and Lindsey Graham (R S.C.) – according to the Hill . Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley — Trump’s top GOP primary rivals — have yet to receive a single sitting senator’s endorsement, the outlet notes.
“Look, in presidential campaigns there are always a lot of promises made,” Lee continued during his Fox News appearance. “My favorite kinds of political promises are promises kept. Donald Trump has kept promises that he’s made as he has campaigned in the past. We know what kind of president he will be.
“So whether you agree with him on every point or not, if you are not content with the status quo, the status quo of lawlessness, of putting America last,” he continued. “It’s time to get behind Donald Trump and I wholeheartedly endorse Donald J. Trump in his bid for the presidency in 2024.” Trump celebrated the senator’s ringing endorsement in a Truth Social post, writing, “THANK YOU—MAGA!!!” Trump had previously endorsed Lee in his 2022 midterm re election contest..
