Urgent Search Underway for Missing Huron County Man, Police Seek Public's Help Amid Growing Concerns

HURON COUNTY, MI – An urgent and widespread search is underway in Huron County as authorities appeal to the public for assistance in locating a missing man, 68-year-old Arthur "Art" Jenkins, who is believed to be endangered. The Huron County Sheriff's Office launched a full-scale operation after Jenkins was reported missing from his home near Port Austin on Tuesday evening, September 10, 2025.

Jenkins’ well-being escalated rapidly after his family discovered he had left his residence without his vital daily medication. Art, who is in the early stages of dementia, is known to occasionally wander and become disoriented, making his disappearance particularly alarming as temperatures drop during the night hours.

Arthur Jenkins is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing around 180 pounds, with distinguishing grey hair and blue eyes.

He was last seen wearing a plaid button-up shirt, blue jeans, and a Detroit Tigers baseball cap. He does not have a vehicle, leading investigators to believe he may be on foot, or could have possibly accepted a ride from someone.

Sheriff's deputies, aided by K-9 units and local volunteers, have been tirelessly combing through surrounding wooded areas, local trails, and conducting door-to-door inquiries in the Port Austin vicinity since his disappearance was reported.

The search efforts are concentrated around the area of his home, but given the time elapsed, his range of travel could be wider.

“Every moment counts in situations like these, especially when a vulnerable individual is involved,” stated Sheriff Kelly Hanson in a recent briefing. “We are utilizing every resource at our disposal and are now turning to our community for their invaluable support.

Even the smallest detail could be the key to bringing Art home safely.”

Authorities are urging residents in Huron County, particularly those in Port Austin and neighboring towns, to remain vigilant. They ask everyone to check their properties, outbuildings, and any remote areas they might have access to.

Drivers are also encouraged to review dashcam footage if they were in the Port Austin area on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.
