MacCallum asked Trump if he’d consider selecting someone he’s been running against in the Republican primary, which includes names like Florida Gov.
Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. When asked if he’d be open to mending fences with other candidates, Trump jokingly said he’s started to like former New Jersey Republican Gov. Trump’s former vice president, Mike Pence, ran against him for the GOP presidential nomination before Pence suspended his campaign in late October. Pence lined up with Trump on some policy preferences like abortion and immigration but publicly feuded with the former president a few times during his short lived presidential campaign.
Pence, who was pressed by Trump to overturn the 2020 presidential election, said the former president was wrong in his actions and that “anyone who puts themselves over the Constitution” or asks another person to do so “should never be president again.” Trump has repeatedly suggested he would not pick Pence as his running mate again.
