This photo illustration shows a person playing online word game "Wordle" on a mobile phone in ... [+] Washington, DC on January 11, 2022. Five letters, six attempts, and only one word per day: the formula for "Wordle" is simple, but for the past few weeks this online game has been stirring up social networks in the United States, and has since been adapted for a French speaking audience.

That means we have just about two and a half months of winter left. A bit longer depending on where you live. If you live in the Southern Hemisphere, you’re enjoying summertime right now and I’m officially jealous.

I’m also jealous of people who: Mostly, though, I try to keep envy at bay. It’s not helpful. No more useful to us than any other deadly sin. In any case, let’s do this Wordle and try to be happy for one another’s good fortune. How To Solve Today’s Word . . . Today's Wordle See yesterday’s Wordle #940 right here.

Wordle Bot Analysis After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was. Wordle Bot is using TRACE now instead of SLATE and it seems to be working out well for the nefarious AI monster. I’ll get to that in a minute. I started with fried for some completely random reason (words just pop into my head, uninvited, and I type them into the boxes).

This was luckier than I realized at the time, slashing the remaining possibilities down to just 25. I immediately realized the predicament I might soon find myself in. Words like wound, pound, bound, sound and so forth all remained, and if ound was the final four letters in my Wordle, I’d be in trouble.

Thankfully, pound left me with just one option: blond for the win! Today’s Score I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 for tying the Bot. Curiously, the Bot guessed TRACE and then for its second guess LIONS which I believe it did yesterday as well. I guess that’s a new one two punch and it seems quite effective.

Today’s Wordle Etymology The etymology of the word "blond" can be traced back to its roots in several languages. Originally, it comes from the Old French word "blont," which referred to a color midway between golden and light chestnut. This Old French term itself likely evolved from the Medieval Latin "blundus," meaning "yellow." The Latin word, in turn, is probably of Germanic origin, as it is similar to the Old High German "blond," which means "to mix," and the Old English "blonden feax," meaning "gray haired." Over time, the word "blond" was adopted into English, initially retaining its original meaning of a color between golden and light chestnut.

Its association with light hair color was more firmly established in the late 15th century. Today, "blond" or "blonde" is commonly used to describe a range of hair colors from light yellow to a golden hue. The variation in spelling ("blond" for males and "blonde" for females) in modern English reflects the word's French origins, where gender is often marked in adjectives.
