Here at the New York Post, we’re all about the trends. From the latest buzzy skincare item (like eye creams ) to new ways of cooking (with olive oil in tow, of course), there isn’t a product or service that doesn’t fascinate us. Alas, we’ve landed at the TikTok viral “ins” and “outs” list.
Here, many creators are posting a curated grouping of trends, themes and products that may be in style for 2024 (perhaps, lip balms ) and others that may be out of style for the coming year (possibly, Crocs , though that one can conjure some controversy). Because we’re constantly reporting on products, services and trends — teaming up with some experts on most shopping guides — we decided to craft our own “ins” and “outs” list of 2024.
After all, it’s only natural when our 9 to 5 consists of majorly tracking all things retail, brands and new launches . ( Related : 100 Trending Gift Ideas, per Google Shopping ). Ahead, each item is part of our “ins” list, while we also hint at some habits and items that might be going “out” for each one.
After years in the biz, we’re pretty confident about our trends forecast, FYI. First things first — it’s important to recognize that everyone’s diet and lifestyle is different, so always consult with a dietitian or nutritionist for advice on what may work best for you . However, it’s safe to say nobody is privy to restrictive diets (you know, the “it’s Jan.
1, so I’m going to live off of kale and only eat X amount of portions” type of living). For that reason, the New York Post predicts — more or less, knows — that wholesome eating is a surefire “in” for 2024. Focusing on a balanced diet in mind, there are a variety of meal kits to look into (not to mention, we tested 20+ of them for years).
Blue Apron happens to be one of our favorites for customized recipes and a rotisserie of options. If we may say so ourselves, eye cream is an underrated step in the skincare process. From our experience speaking with board certified dermatologists, they likely consider eye cream to be an optional step in between your favorite cleanser and moisturizer — though they’ll typically mention how eye cream can be the cherry on top of your skincare sundae.
What’s out? The seven step skincare routine. Sometimes, the less is more mentality is more beneficial for your skin. We recently tested 50+ eye creams and the Sunday Riley Auto Correct Brightening and De Puffing Eye Contour Cream is our favorite of them all. Not only does a quality eye cream make you feel luxurious but this one in particular truly glistened on the skin (and, made us not even want to apply makeup).
With so many stressors that seemed to put everyone on edge in 2023, we’re confident that taking a few moments each day to breathe and be mindful — even for only five or 10 minutes — is what’ll surely be “in.” What’s out? Worrying, over analyzing and not putting yourself first. We’ve been using Headspace for years and truly can’t start our days without it.
From pre packaged plans to guided meditations, you’ll quickly find it serving you well as a centralized hub to calm your concerns. Don’t come after us — the hair bows trend is going to go out of style in 2024, and not because we don’t love it. It’s quite overused, somewhat impractical and a bit too saturated online right now.
But, that doesn’t mean all hair bows will be “out” this year. We anticipate the rise of the hair bow claw clip. Consider it a marriage of the oh so popular claw clip and the more recently trending hair bow. Plus, they’re adorable, chic and affordable. As an aside from the “Barbiecore” days of 2023, the New York Post doesn’t deem pink out of style.
While the over worn Barbie pink may be tossed to the side, muted pinks and peach tones — even fuschia and magenta tones instead — will certainly be “in” for 2024. One of our favorite destinations for sweaters and cardigans is Anthropologie (seriously, you should see our closets). The Mariel Longline Cardigan Sweater is effortlessly sophisticated whether worn to work or to a weekend brunch and we love its well made quality.
Another “out” for 2024: meaningless scrolling. This holds especially true if you have an overt distaste for the weekly rise in your screen time. The solution? Making time for intentional, fun learning. MasterClass is one of our favorite platforms for this (read our review of the platform for more), especially because we’ve gained insight from seasoned experts like Bobbi Brown, Gordon Ramsay, Martha Stewart and more household names.
We’ve been seeing plenty of people creating physical vision boards for 2024 — and we don’t see the craftiness craze going anywhere. What’s out? Not making time to flex the more inquisitive, left side of your brain. Scrapbooking — and, the act of going to a craft store like Michael’s — is what we anticipate being “in” for 2024.
Not only will you find a variety of ribbons, page accents and stickers (like glittery flower appliqués and gold swirl borders ) but the art of scrapbooking itself is a tangible momento to look back on and see how incredible the year has been for you. Not to mention, this 12×12 scrapbook is one of our personal favorites, thanks to its spiral bound design.
We look forward to planning our pages, printing our photos (with the new Canon Ivy 2 Mini Photo Printer we were recently gifted this past holiday season) and enjoying this new form of unwinding in the evening time and on the weekends. While we’re not 100% firm that lip balms will be “out” in 2024, we’re 100% certain that lip masks will take full reign this year.
One of our favorites that we’ve been using religiously is the Farmacy Apple Lip Smoothie Vitamin C + Peptide Lip Balm. It locks in moisture to your lip area at large and has a delicious fruity flavor and a glossy appeal. For a lip mask that’s equally as hydrating but applies clear, we recommend the belif Aqua Bomb Overnight Lip Mask ($22).
Its tub and quick fix formulation makes us use it on repeat as well. Check out the New York Post Shopping section for more content..
