Texas A&M President addresses misinformation about the university's alleged secret deal with Qatar spreading online

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — On January 4, an organization called The Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy posted a tweet claiming they were sent a letter exposing Qatar’s unregulated billion dollar funding to Texas A&M University’s nuclear programs. The tweet quickly attracted a lot of attention and has almost 10 million views.

The group is now demanding a federal investigation into what they see as a national security threat. The viral tweet quickly made the rounds on other social media platforms like TikTok, where podcast host, Jack Mac from Barstool Sports, spread this claim with a video that has received more than 275,000 views.

“It is being alleged that Texas A&M is receiving over a billion dollars in funding from Qatar in exchange for control over nuclear and weapons research at their university,” Mac said. Texas A&M University President Mark Welsh addressed these claims Sunday afternoon with a statement clearing up several misconstrued facts about the relations between Texas A&M and Qatar.

According to President Welsh, there has been a university branch in Qatar since 2003 but there are no nuclear engineering programs or classes on that campus. Contrary to the claims, no nuclear or weapons research is conducted at the location, nor do they have any connection to nuclear reactor research in Texas or Los Alamos National Lab.

President Welsh explains that A&M complies with all U.S. laws and follows all the regulations in their relationships with international groups. Follow KAGS on social media: Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube Also on KAGS:.
