Shreyas Iyer reacts to T20I snub ahead of England Tests: Focused on being in present

Listen to Story Shreyas Iyer has said that he is currently 'focused on the present' after being dropped from India's T20I squad for the series against Afghanistan. After a fantastic ODI World Cup campaign, Shreyas found himself in the T20I setup as he was selected as the vice captain of the team for the last two matches against Australia last year.

He was also part of the squad for the South Africa tour as well, but didn't play a single match before . With the three matches being the final ones India will play before the T20 World Cup, the Indian batter now finds himself on the fringes ahead of the tournament in the West Indies and the USA.

Despite this, Shreyas seemed to be calm about being dropped from the side. Speaking to Cricinfo, after playing for Mumbai in the Ranji trophy, the batter said he isn't going to be focussing on something not in his control. "See, right now I'm being in the present," he said of being dropped from the T20I side.

"I've finished the match which I was asked to play, I came, and I executed, so I'm happy with what I'm doing. Something that is not in my control, I can't be focusing on that. Coming here and winning the match was my focus and that's what we did today," said Shreyas.

Shreyas' return to the Test side during the series against South Africa didn't pan out well. The Indian batter registered scores of 31, 6, 0 and 4 across the two matches. Despite this, . The Mumbai batter said that he isn't thinking a lot ahead and looking to perform well in the first two matches.

"It's important to take one match at a time, not think about five match Test series. The team is only for the first two games. The motto would be to perform in the first two games and then look forward to the rest of the games," said Shreyas..
