In spite of its immense popularity, fans of Apple's AirTag stand to anticipate a substantial delay before laying their hands on the next edition. As per Bloomberg's "Power On" newsletter written by Mark Gurman, Apple is not hurriedly planning to launch the next stage, AirTag 2, anytime soon. The launch is unlikely to happen in 2024 and potentially will be postponed to 2025. This slow movement matches another report from October claiming that the AirTag 2 production might not start until the end of 2024, targeting a release in early 2025.
Enormous production of AirTags is being considered as the primary reason for the delay by Gurman, stating that Apple has a surplus of stock in retail stores, with warehouses reportedly "overfilled with AirTags".
Despite the noted efficiency of the first-generation model, expectations are high for an enhanced wireless chip in the second iteration, aimed at aligning it with the latest components present in newer iPhones and Apple Watches. This could involve the integration of a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, believed to significantly enhance the range of the device.
