Sand Land: The Series’ trailer teases a world of explosive action and devilish humor

Bandai Namco Entertainment shared a new teaser trailer for Sand Land: The Series this Friday. Based on the one shot manga by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, the anime will consist of re edited footage from the anime film, which premiered in Japan late last year, as well as a new story set after the events of the movie written by Toriyama himself.

The trailer revealed that the anime will stream on Hulu this spring, placing the series’ premiere date somewhere between April and June. Set in a post apocalyptic future where the world’s water supply has been depleted, Sand Land follows the story of Rao, a sheriff who ventures into the desert in search of a legendary spring to save his small town from the machinations of a greedy water baron king.

To help him, Rao enlists the aid of the Demon prince Beelzebub, who agrees to aid him in his quest out of boredom. When the king catches wind of their plan, Rao and Beezlebub must brave the dangers of the desert and an army of tanks to find the mythical spring and free the land from the king’s tyranny.

The trailer looks impressive, with explosive action sequences and art direction that perfectly captures the whimsical aesthetic of Toriyama’s original manga. The series is a co production between Bandai Namco Filmworks (credited as Sunrise), Kamikaze Douga (known for its work on the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure franchise), and Anima ( Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV ).

Akira Toriyama is set to have a big year in 2024. In addition to the premiere of Sand Land: The Series , an upcoming action RPG based on the anime is scheduled to be released on April 25. In addition to that, a new Dragon Ball series is slated to premiere later this Fall..
