Listen to Story South Africa's premier T20 franchise league SA20 is in its second season. The popular T20 league will see several top stars playing in the month long tournament. SunRisers Eastern Cape won the first edition of the tournament after beating Pretoria Capitals by 4 wickets in the final.
SunRisers captain Aiden Markram was announced the player of the tournament for his sensational performances throughout the tournament. With the second season starting on January 10, Markram said that he was super excited for the second season. Markram said that SA20 had the potential to nurture young talents and effectively become South Africa's Indian Premier League.
"It is very exciting, last year it was a fantastic competition to be a part of and a great start to be what I believe, it will be a huge tournament moving forward. IPL gets huge appreciation because of how successful it has been for so many years. I think SA20 can grow each player," Markram told the press during the captain's meet on January 8.
The SunRisers captain will be coming into the tournament in great form after scoring a century in a treacherous Cape Town pitch against South Africa. Markram will hope to get some runs under his belt ahead of the Indian Premier League and the T20 World Cup 2024. South Africa batter and Paarl Royals captain David Miller said that SA20 will provide a great build up for the T20 World Cup as several key SA players will play in the IPL as well "I am very excited, from what happened last season, the success that we had I am really looking forward to this year.
Big crowd, lot of entertainment and seriously good players all the way through the country so it has been a big buildup. It is a big one; there is the IPL and then there is this competition so the more games you play, the more experience you gain so it really leads nicely to the World Cup. It gives a great platform for June," Miller said in the press conference..
