Robbery suspect shot by Fort Worth officer during confrontation, police say

FORT WORTH, Texas — A shooting involving a police officer that happened in the early morning hours on Sunday is presently under investigation by the Fort Worth Police Department and the Tarrant District Attorney's Office. The authorities have shared details of the ongoing case through an uploaded press conference on their YouTube channel and a press release on X.

The statement revealed that officers were alerted about a robbery in a 24-hour vape shop located in South Fort Worth, specifically in the 6400 block of McCart Avenue, in the vicinity of Altamesa Boulevard around 4 a.m.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers initiated a search for the culprit, who reportedly ran into an open field situated behind the shopping center. Later, he was discovered hiding in a nearby yard in the 3200 block of Fargo Court, as authorities stated.

The confrontation between a police officer and the suspect resulted in the officer firing a shot, hitting the suspect in his leg. The police officers present at the scene rendered immediate first aid to the injured man, who was then transported to the hospital. As per the officials, his condition is stable and he is set for recovery.

The police have yet to disclose the identity of the 37-year-old suspect. Thankfully, no one in the vape shop or any responding officer was harmed during this incident. The officer involved in the shooting is currently on Significant Event Leave, as per the Fort Worth Police Department.

The case is being thoroughly investigated by the FWPD Major Case Unit and Internal Affairs, along with the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office.
