Repairs to water main break in Boston expected to be complete Sunday

The Boston Water and Sewer Commission says it will need just days to repair a broken water main in the city's Theater District instead of a week as previously reported by Boston police. The Boston Water and Sewer Commission posted on social media at 9:35 a.m. Saturday that crews were responding to water in the roadway at the intersection of Stuart and Tremont streets.

Shortly before 12:45 p.m., the Boston Police Department advised drivers to expect slower and longer than usual traffic near the intersection because the BWSC advised police there was an estimated weeklong repair to fix the broken water main. But shortly before 2:45 p.m., the BWSC said its crews had identified the source of the leak is on a high pressure fire line and that high pressure and low pressure water services had been turned on.

Domestic water service on Stuart and Tremont streets had also been restored by Saturday afternoon, according to the BWSC. The BWSC said crews have begun repairs on the high pressure line and that the work is expected to be complete on Sunday. The agency stateed that final road paving would be happening Monday morning..
