Registered sex offender arrested in alleged crimes on Livermore high school campus

LIVERMORE — A 39 year old registered sex offender was arrested Thursday after he allegedly committed sex related crimes on the Granada High School campus, police said. The suspect, a Livermore resident, was booked at Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of indecent exposure, contact with a minor with intent to commit a sex or other crime, annoying or molesting a victim under 18, being a sex offender on a school without permission, possession of a controlled substance and possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia.

The man is being held in lieu of $200,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 16. According to police, just after noon Thursday officers responded to a report of an adult trespassing near the football field at Granada High School, 400 Wall St. A Livermore police school resource officer assigned to the school responded to the area and the man ran off campus.

Other officers subsequently found him in the creek area behind the campus. Police said they confirmed the man was a registered sex offender. Police said an initial investigation determined that the man had committed a lewd act on the campus and also exposed himself to a female student. Police said they don’t believe the man had any actual physical contact with any students.

Officers allegedly found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on him when he was arrested. According to state records, the man was ordered to register as a sex offender in 2004 after he was convicted of sexual penetration with a foreign object by force or fear. Details were not immediately available on the case, including the location of that conviction.
