Raymore Break-In Takes Chilling Turn, RCMP Uncover Fentanyl and Prohibited Weapons

It all began, as many of these stories do, with a call about a property crime. Police from the Strasbourg/Last Mountain Lake RCMP detachment were dispatched to a business in the quiet community of Raymore, Saskatchewan, following reports of a break-in. This was on the morning of October 25, 2023, and initially, it seemed like a relatively straightforward case for the officers involved.

However, what seemed like a typical investigation into a smashed window or a missing item quickly took an unexpected, rather chilling turn. While meticulously processing the scene, officers made a discovery that no one anticipates in a small, unassuming town. Among the items found were quantities of suspected fentanyl, a potent and incredibly dangerous opioid that has ravaged communities far and wide, alongside a set of polymer knuckles, an undeniably prohibited weapon.

You can imagine the shift in the atmosphere at the scene. What started as a hunt for a burglar suddenly became a much more serious operation, hinting at a darker undercurrent than a simple theft. The presence of fentanyl, especially, raises immediate alarms due to its extreme potency and the significant risk it poses not just to users, but also to first responders.

Naturally, the investigation deepened considerably. The RCMP worked diligently, gathering evidence and following leads, which ultimately pointed directly to a 32-year-old Raymore resident, Cody Tyler Wiebe. On November 1, 2023, authorities were able to locate and arrest Mr. Wiebe in connection with both the original break-in and the disturbing discoveries made at the scene.

He now faces a serious array of charges, reflecting the gravity of the items found. These include possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, a charge that carries significant penalties given the drug's lethal nature, as well as possession of a prohibited weapon for the polymer knuckles. Furthermore, he's also charged with possession of property obtained by crime, which rounds out the extent of the alleged criminal activity. Mr. Wiebe was scheduled to make his initial court appearance in Regina on November 2, 2023.

This incident serves as a stark reminder that even in the most tranquil of settings, the challenges of illicit drugs and prohibited weapons can surface.
