Queens dad suffers critical injuries as blaze rips through family home: FDNY

A family of six was hospitalized, the father in critical condition, early Saturday when , FDNY and NYPD officials said. Two cops were also injured as they tried to get into the burning home to rescue the victims. The fire broke out on the second floor of the two story home on in Flushing about 2:15 a.m., FDNY officials said.

Cops called to the scene tried to force open the door, but began suffering from smoke inhalation. Responding firefighters helped pull six people from the apartment, including a 50 year old man suffering from severe burns and three children: a 10 year old girl, a 9 year old boy and a 7 year old girl.

Two women, ages 46 and 22, were also removed from the fire apartment. EMS rushed the older man to , where he remained in critical condition Saturday. His wife and children all suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Queens General Hospital for treatment. The two cops were also removed to Long Island Jewish Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation, cops said.
