Quebec Electrifies Its Future: $10 Million Investment Powers New Battery Pack Manufacturing Hub in Longueuil

Quebec is making a powerful statement in the electric vehicle sector, announcing a significant $10 million investment to establish a cutting-edge battery pack manufacturing plant in Longueuil. This strategic move aims to solidify the province's position as a leader in green technology, create substantial employment opportunities, and reduce its reliance on foreign markets for critical components.

The recipient of this provincial boost is Forsee Power, a renowned French company specializing in smart battery systems for electric heavy-duty and light vehicles.

The new Longueuil facility is poised to become a cornerstone of North American battery production, focusing on advanced battery packs for electric buses, trucks, and off-road vehicles. This commitment underscores Quebec's ambition to be at the forefront of the energy transition.

Economy, Innovation and Energy Minister Pierre Fitzgibbon highlighted the dual benefits of the investment.

"By attracting an international leader like Forsee Power, we are not only creating quality jobs but also strengthening our industrial autonomy," Fitzgibbon stated, emphasizing the importance of local production in an increasingly competitive global landscape. The project is expected to generate 150 skilled jobs over the next five years, providing a significant boost to the local economy and fostering expertise in a rapidly evolving industry.

Christophe Gégout, CEO of Forsee Power North America, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration.

"This investment enables us to significantly expand our production capacity and better serve the growing North American market directly from Quebec," Gégout commented. The plant, anticipated to be fully operational by 2024, will initially produce 0.7 GWh of battery capacity, with ambitious plans to scale up to 3 GWh by 2027, marking a substantial increase in regional output.

Beyond job creation, the Longueuil plant represents a crucial step towards building a robust, integrated supply chain for electric vehicles within Quebec.

By manufacturing battery packs locally, the province will enhance its self-sufficiency, contribute to reducing carbon emissions, and reinforce its appeal as a prime location for green industrial development.
