PM Modi To Address 2 Lakh Women Gathering In Thrissur, Sound Poll Bugle in Kerala

The official campaign for the imminent Lok Sabha elections in Kerala is due to launch with an address from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. The event, named 'Sthree Shakthi Modikk Oppam' (Empower Women with Modi), is designed to celebrate the successful establishment of the Women's Reservation Bill in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. It will take place in Thrissur district's Thekkinadu ground, with an expected attendance of 200,000 women participants from a range of professional and social backgrounds. The event, according to the BJP, signals their official commencement of their electoral campaign for the forthcoming polls in a state where they are eager to establish their presence, which has been traditionally dominated by the CPI(M) led LDF and Congress led UPF. High profile attendees of the event are said to include actress danseuse Shobhana, cricketer Minnu Mani, entrepreneur Beena Kannan, singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi and Mariyakutty, known for speaking out against corruption. The choice of Thrissur as the convention's location reflects the party's ambitions for the constituency in the forthcoming elections. The state BJP leadership has also confirmed that other national leaders will be visiting Kerala in the run up to the polls to engage with the public.
