SEATTLE — Pete Carroll is out as Seahawks head coach and is expected to move to an advisor role with the organization, according to a release on Wednesday morning. A statement from Seahawks chair Jody Allen on Wednesday said the two sides agreed to amicably move on after "thoughtful meetings and careful consideration." Carroll spent 14 seasons in Seattle, winning 137 games, making two Super Bowls and winning a championship in 2013 against the Denver Broncos.
The Seahawks made the playoffs in 10 seasons under Carroll, but have missed the postseason in two of the last three years. Caroll, 72, was the oldest coach in the National Football League last season. "His expertise in leadership and building a championship culture will continue as an integral part of our organization moving forward," Allen said in a statement.
