Pedestrian killed in Gresham crash

A woman was struck and killed by a driver while crossing a street in Gresham Friday evening. The woman, who police did not identify, was crossing in the 1900 block of Southeast 182nd Avenue when she was hit by a driver around 5:15 p.m. She was not using a crosswalk, police said. An off duty paramedic saw the woman and helped her until an ambulance arrived, but she died at the scene, police said.

The driver stopped and cooperated with officers, police said. The person was not arrested. The woman’s death marked the 15th traffic fatality in Gresham this year, police said. On Dec. 11, a pedestrian was at East Burnside Street and Northeast 181st Avenue. Police arrested a 17 year old suspect in the fatal crash.

A 72 year old man was also killed in a hit and run crash on Nov. 24. The man, identified as Randolph James Stitt, was thrown nearly 70 feet from the impact of the crash, and died of his injuries on Dec. 20. Police said the driver was in a mid sized, light colored SUV..
