Netflix’s new 3 Body Problem trailer is all about the mystery

We’re inching ever closer to ’s premiere on Netflix, and today, that means another glimpse at the sci fi adaptation. Whereas focused on the incredibly immersive virtual reality game at the core of the story, the latest clip focuses on something different: the mystery. Basically, a whole bunch of scientists have gone missing, and Benedict Wong’s character is trying to figure out what it all means.
The show, of course, is based on the novel by Cixin Liu (which was just the first part of a trilogy), and Netflix describes the premise thusly: It features an excellent cast — in addition to Wong, there’s Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao, Liam Cunningham, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani, and Jonathan Pryce — and is being helmed by showrunners Alexander Woo, David Benioff, and D.B.
Weiss (the former duo being best known for another epic adaptation with on HBO). In a post on Netflix’s Tudum site, Woo talked a bit about how the team is approaching shifting from book to television. “What we are hoping to do is to convey the experience — if not necessarily the exact details — of the novel onto the screen,” he explained.
“What stayed, we hope, is the sense of wonderment and the sense of scope, of scale, where the problems are no longer just the problems of an individual or even a nation, but of an entire species.” The new trailer reveal was actually part of — which makes a certain kind of sense given ’s . The show starts streaming on March 21st.
