Motorcycle riders dead in Portsmouth after falling into the Elizabeth River

Portsmouth police said two people died Sunday morning after driving their motorcycle into the jersey wall on the West Norfolk Bridge. About 8 a.m. today, Portsmouth police said a man and a woman were riding on the eastbound lanes of State Route 164 on the bridge when the driver struck the jersey wall. Both people were ejected into the Elizabeth River, and Portsmouth Fire and Rescue were dispatched to assist in the water rescue. They were pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, police have not released the victims’ identities.
