Matt Sokol and Andrew Stueber have reverted to the New England Patriots ’ practice squad after serving as standard elevations against the Buffalo Bills on New Year’s Eve. The 27 21 loss at Highmark Stadium, which brought the visitors to 4 12, marked the second call up for the tight end and the first call up for the offensive tackle.
Sokol, 28, played one offensive snap in Orchard Park for a depth chart that started Mike Gesicki and Pharaoh Brown in the absence of questionable captain Hunter Henry. The Michigan State product previously reverted last week after making his 2023 debut versus the Denver Broncos . Ten snaps on offense and seven snaps on special teams were handled at Mile High.
Entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2019, Sokol had two separate stints with the Los Angeles Chargers , Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions before being claimed off waivers ahead of organized team activities in 2022. He appeared in three games as an elevation last campaign. Stueber, 24, was active for the first time in his career but did not take the field against Buffalo.
Instead, summer trade acquisition Vederian Lowe started and stayed in for all 53 downs at left tackle with veteran incumbent Trent Brown a healthy scratch . Chosen in seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft at No. 245 overall, Stueber spent his rookie year on the non football injury list and cleared waivers at the 53 man roster deadline in August.
From there, the former first team All Big Ten selection out of Michigan agreed to join the practice squad in Foxborough at its formation. Safety Joshuah Bledsoe signed to New England’s active roster prior to the AFC East matchup. And following the reversions, the scout team stands at a dozen players as futures contracts near.
The New York Jets visit Gillette Stadium next Sunday for the season finale. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET..
