Man killed, another injured in New Year’s Eve shooting in NE Portland

A man was killed and another was injured in a New Year’s Eve shooting in Northeast Portland, the Portland Police Bureau reported Sunday night. Police responded to reports of a shooting in the 1100 block of Northeast Faloma Road just after 8 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived in the residential neighborhood, they found two men who had been shot.

Both men were taken to a local hospital, where one died, officials said. Police did not provide information about the condition of the other man. Police have not yet released the name of the victim or any other details about the shooting. If the death is ruled a homicide, it would mark at least the 75th murder in Portland in 2023, according to preliminary estimates from the Portland Police Bureau.

Homicides decreased in 2023 after , the deadliest year in the city’s history. Northeast Faloma Road was closed from near Northeast 6th Drive to Northeast 13th Avenue during the investigation.
