Maharashtra FDA Unleashes State-Wide Crackdown on Cough Syrup Quality Amid Global Health Fears

In a significant move to safeguard public health, Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has launched an expansive state-wide inspection of cough syrups. The comprehensive operation, spearheaded by FDA Commissioner Abhimanyu Kale, aims to meticulously scrutinize the quality and safety of cough syrups available across the state.

This proactive measure reflects a heightened sense of urgency following reports from countries like Gambia, Uzbekistan, and Cameroon, where contaminated cough syrups led to fatalities, raising red flags about global pharmaceutical supply chains.

FDA officials are conducting rigorous checks at every stage of the supply chain, from the manufacturing units where these syrups are produced, to the wholesale distributors, and finally, the retail pharmacies where they reach consumers.

The inspection involves a thorough review of manufacturing practices, adherence to quality control standards, and the proper documentation of drug ingredients and processes.
