Ludhiana Police Nab Trio Behind Jagraon Jewellery Heist

Three repeat offenders arrested for robbery at Jagraon jewellery shop

Ludhiana authorities have detained three known criminals in connection with a daring theft at a Jagraon jewellery store, recovering a portion of the stolen valuables.

Late last night, the Ludhiana police said they had finally cornered three men who have a track record of petty thefts, linking them to a bold robbery at a jewellery shop in Jagraor, a town about 80 kilometres from the city.

The incident, which unfolded on a quiet Saturday afternoon, saw the trio break into the shop, smash display cases and make off with gold ornaments worth an estimated ₹ 15 lakh. Neighbouring shopkeepers reported hearing a loud crash followed by hurried footsteps, but by the time the police arrived, the thieves had already vanished.

According to Inspector Rajinder Singh, who led the investigation, the suspects were identified through a combination of CCTV footage and a tip-off from a local resident who recognised one of the men from earlier petty crimes.

“These are not first‑time offenders. Their names have come up in previous cases involving minor burglaries in the district. We kept a close watch on their movements and, after corroborating the visual evidence, we were able to locate them at a residence in the outskirts of Ludhiana,” Singh explained.

The police operation, carried out early this morning, resulted in the arrest of the three men – identified as 28‑year‑old Aman Kumar, 31‑year‑old Harpreet Singh and 26‑year‑old Gurpreet Dhillon. All three were taken to the police station for questioning.

During the interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the Jagraon robbery but claimed the loot had already been divided and hidden. Officers were able to recover a handful of gold chains and a small number of earrings, though a large portion of the stolen jewellery remains missing.

The case has sparked concerns among local merchants, who fear a rise in organized thefts. The shop owners in Jagraon have urged the authorities to tighten security measures and increase patrols, especially in areas where small‑scale jewellery outlets operate.

Inspector Singh reassured the public that the investigation is ongoing. “We will continue to follow every lead, and we are confident that the remaining items will be recovered soon. Our priority is to bring the culprits to justice and restore confidence among shopkeepers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the three arrested individuals have been remanded to judicial custody and are set to appear before the court next week. If convicted, they could face stringent penalties under the Indian Penal Code, given the nature of the offense and their prior criminal history.
