As part of his job as the coach of the German national team, Julian Nagelsmann must travel back to Bayern Munich to keeps tabs on his current — and potential — players. If you were wondering if that might get awkward based on how Nagelsmann was unceremoniously kicked to the curb last season in Bavaria, Germany’s head coach said there was no ill will in either direction.
“When you take a job at a big club, you know what you got yourself into — that can always happen. I didn’t fall into a hole after that. I tried to reflect about what I did right and what went wrong,” Nagelsmann said during an appearance on ZDF sportstudio (as captured by @iMiaSanMia ). “Of course I wasn’t happy with the way it (the dismissal) happened.
But that’s how football works, I can’t blame the club. Lost the dressing room? I didn’t have that feeling. Some things were not presented in a good way, for example the ski holiday.” Even after everything that went down — and the awkwardness of how it happened — Nagelsmann holds no grudges.
“I go to the stadium and meet the people in charge, for example Uli (Hoeneß) — we talk, but more about my job as national team coach. We can still look each other in the eye, everything’s fine,” Nagelsmann said. And fine...is good enough for everyone.
