Jonathan Majors Won’t Play Dennis Rodman in Biopic: Report

Actor Jonathan Majors , who was convicted of assaulting an ex girlfriend last month, will no longer portray Dennis Rodman in an upcoming movie, according to CNN . The news network reports that although Majors has not officially been dropped from the film, 48 Hours in Vegas — which focuses on Rodman’s 1998 trip to Sin City during the NBA finals — Majors will not be a part of the project.

CNN’s sources claim that Lionsgate, which owns the rights to 48 Hours in Vegas , has given the film’s producers the opportunity to find a new star. A source tells Rolling Stone that Lionsgate is no longer actively developing the movie and that the producers are working to set it up theatrically elsewhere.

Majors was not the only factor in play, CNN reported; the film is allegedly over budget and the producers now have the opportunity to raise more capital for reshoots. “I cannot imagine a world where this moves forward with Jonathan,” one source told the network. A rep for Lionsgate did not return Rolling Stone’s request for comment in time for publication.

Neither did talent agency WME, which represents Majors. The fallout has been swift since a jury found Majors guilty of harassment and assault on Dec. 18. As he awaits sentencing, which could mean a year in jail, companies he works with have distanced themselves from him. (Majors was also found not guilty of other counts of aggravated harassment and assault on the same day.) Marvel Studios fired Majors , who portrayed the villain Kang in Marvel movies and the TV series Loki , within minutes of the verdict.

He was to star in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty slated for May 2026. Now the company needs to figure out how to move forward . And last March, after news of his arrest broke, the U.S. Army stopped airing ads that featured him; in October, another movie that was to feature Majors, Magazine Dreams , was removed from the release schedule .

CNN’s sources speculated that another picture, Spike Lee’s Da Understudy , that was to feature Majors might not move forward — not necessarily because of Majors but because it’s having a long gestation. Last March, Majors was arrested for when an ex girlfriend alleged he’d strangled, assaulted, and harassed her. Grace Jabbari, a dancer, claimed that during an argument, Majors twisted her arm behind her head, hit her in the head, and shoved her back into a car. In June, Rolling Stone published the results of an investigation that uncovered nearly a decade’s worth of abuse claims against the actor; two dozen sources, which include former partners and people who have worked with him on sets, spoke out. Majors has maintained his innocence throughout all of the allegations.

In an interview with ABC News’ Linsey Davis, he claimed he was never abusive in relationships. “Yeah, I was not the best boyfriend at the time … but [I] never hit a woman,” he said. “My hands have never struck a woman, ever.”.
