Jonathan Majors has now been fired from playing Dennis Rodman

Jonathan Majors’ film and TV commitments continue to get pared down to , it seems, as that the former Marvel star has now been fired from , a film in which . The film has also reportedly been dropped from Lionsgate’s production slate outright, on the understanding that if it gets shopped around to another studio, it won’t be with Majors in the starring role anymore.

Produced by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Aditya Sood, the film centers on a memorable moment from the Chicago Bulls’ drive toward the 1998 NBA championship, when Rodman lobbied coach Phil Jackson for the titular 48 hours in Vegas in order to blow off steam—and then failed to return on time, forcing Jackson to send Michael Jordan to drag him back to work.

(All of which is recounted, in Jordan’s very funny, straight talking style, in 2020's .) The film reportedly offered up a fictionalized version of the extended vacation in question, with Rodman teamed up with a “skittish assistant GM” presumably meant to keep him reined in while he partied.

All of which appears to have been absolutely wrecked by Majors’ conviction, late last year, on charges of assault and harassment against ex girlfriend Grace Jabbari. To some extent, today’s news parallels the situation with Disney acquired festival success , the other major non Marvel project in the wake of the convictions; nobody wants to watch Jonathan Majors cut loose or lose control at the moment, is the sentiment we’re picking up.

It’s not clear when, if ever, might end up with another studio; Rodman himself serves as an executive producer on the film..
