J&K Farmers Thrive with Cutting-Edge Organic & Integrated Farming Training at PAU

A beacon of agricultural innovation, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Ludhiana recently played host to a transformative 10-day training program, empowering farmers from Jammu and Kashmir with advanced organic and integrated farming techniques. This vital initiative, organized by PAU’s Directorate of Extension Education under the Agri-Tourism and Farmers Exposure Visit Program, saw 18 enthusiastic farmers delve deep into modern sustainable agricultural practices, promising a brighter, more prosperous future for their fields back home.

The comprehensive curriculum was meticulously designed to cover a broad spectrum of cutting-edge farming methods.

Participants received invaluable instruction in the principles of organic farming, mastering the art of cultivating healthy produce without synthetic inputs. The program also heavily emphasized the integrated farming system, a holistic approach that synergizes various agricultural components like crop cultivation, livestock rearing, and aquaculture to maximize resource efficiency and farm profitability.

Beyond the basics, the training ventured into specialized areas crucial for modern agriculture.

Farmers gained hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge in protected cultivation, which includes techniques like greenhouse farming, enabling them to grow crops in controlled environments, mitigating climate risks and extending growing seasons. Beekeeping, a lucrative venture that not only provides honey but also supports crop pollination, was another key focus.

The art of mushroom cultivation, a high-value, low-space farming method, and essential food processing techniques to add value to their produce, were also integral parts of the learning experience.
