Jaiswal ‘honoured’ to bat with Virat Kohli, says ‘I can learn a lot from him’

Listen to Story Yashasvi Jaiswal said that he was ‘honoured’ to bat with Virat Kohli in India’s second T20I against Afghanistan on Sunday, January 15 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. Kohli returned to playing T20Is for India after a gap of 14 months since last playing in the semi final of the T20 World Cup 2022 against England at the Adelaide Oval.

Kohli scored 29 runs off 16 balls with 5 fours before Naveen ul Haq accounted for his wicket. “It was nice going there and enjoying the game, especially when I batted with Virat bhaiya. It is an honour to bat with him and I can learn lots of things,” Jaiswal was quoted as saying in the post match press conference.

Kohli came to bat after India lost the early wicket of Rohit Sharma while chasing 173. From there on, he, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal brought their team back into the game with a partnership of 57 runs for the second wicket. The left handed Jaiswal talked about how he kept interacting with Kohli in the middle.

“When we were batting, we had a small chat about where we could hit. Then we decided that it was easy to hit over long on and mid off, and we tried to do that. The intent was positive and we tried to hit good shots,” he stated. Jaiswal opened the batting and with 5 fours and 6 sixes. Karim Janat eventually dismissed him, but by then, the Indian batter had already put his team in a position of command.

“I have been told to go there and express myself and try to do what I do best. I keep working hard on my practice sessions so that whenever I get a chance, I try my best.” Jaiswal said that India made the right call by opting to field first, keeping in mind the dew factor that was about to come into play.

“It was a good decision to bat second as there was dew in the second half. I enjoyed the environment that we had in Indore,” Jaiswal added. India won the second game by 6 wickets and will be looking for a clean sweep at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on January 17..
