After Ja’Marr Chase took some shots at the Chiefs defense going into Sunday’s game, it surprised no one that Chase ended up in a shoving match with L’Jarius Sneed, which turned into a bigger scuffle. But even after the Chiefs came away with a win, Chase couldn’t help but take a jab at Sneed when he spoke with reporters.
“I don’t know what he was doing. I just be under people’s skin sometimes I guess,” Chase said. “M fer won’t fight me so it’s alright. … Just trash talking. Can’t handle it.” The fracas occurred in the second quarter as the two jawed at one another before Chase shoved Sneed twice and the Chiefs defender shoved him back.

Sneed had some pointed comments for Chase after the game. “We had some words. I went up to him after the game, told him ‘good game,'” Sneed said. “But you know, check the stats.” #Chiefs L'Jarius Sneed asked about Ja'Marr Chase: "We had some words but you know…check the stats" pic.twitter.com/UaEH84Mh3c Chase had just three catches for 42 yards in the Bengals loss, which eliminated them from playoff contention.
Furthermore, Sneed had been the primary defender covering Chase, according to Next Gen Stats, and gave up only two catches for 27 yards on three targets. There has been growing bad blood between the Chiefs and Bengals, and Sunday’s game only added to it. Chase had told reporters last week that there was “nothing” that stood out about Kansas City’s secondary.
“I started it off,” Chase responded Sunday when asked who started the trash talking. “Their whole defense was mad at me. It started at the beginning of the game. You’ve seen it. Everybody’s seen it. That’s just what I like to do. I just be under people’s skin sometimes.” Chase had been a question mark if he was going to play against Kansas City after missing the previous week’s game against the Steelers due to a shoulder issue.
But even with Chase in the lineup, the Bengals dropped to 8 8, and the Chiefs captured their eighth consecutive AFC West title..
