One of his newest pieces, finished just a couple of weeks ago, is this one: Varied Thrush and Arbutus Berries. The Varied Thrush is found in the western parts of North America. It is sometimes confused with the American robin as they are of a similar size and colouring, but the Varied Thrush has orange eyebrows and wingbars that a robin does not. Their diet in winter includes berries such as these on the arbutus tree, a broadleaf evergreen which is found along the coast in western Canada, including on Vancouver Island. Along the west coast of the United States, the tree is known as the Pacific madrone. Special thanks to Robert Bateman for helping us ring in the new year with a work of art. See a typo/mistake?
