Giants offensive tackle Tyre Phillips tore his right quad Sunday against the Rams and will require surgery, head coach Brian Daboll said Monday . Philips suffered a knee injury during the Giants’ first drive of Sunday’s 26 25 loss , but returned. He was later carted off the field in the fourth quarter.
“I don’t think it’s good,” Daboll said Sunday. “He was hurting pretty good. He was in a lot of pain out there.’’ Phillips had replaced Evan Neal as the Giants’ right tackle, and Sunday marked his 10th game — and ninth start. “We working so hard for some injuries to happen but we play a sport that has injuries,” Phillips told The Athletic on Sunday .
“Just got to trust God. Got to trust him through it all.” Matt Peart replaced Philips after he exited the game, and he figures to start in Week 18 when the Giants close out the season at home against the Eagles. Philips spent last season with the Giants’ practice squad, before the Eagles signed him to theirs earlier this season.
The Giants then re signed him when an opportunity opened due to Neal’s injury . The Giants could look to host a competition for their right tackle position next season due to Neal’s performance and health issues spanning the last two years..
